We're only hours away from February, I can't believe it! Winter is going by quick and I, for one, am not complaining. February might be cold but we've all got warm hearts thinking about love day on the 14th.

I have fond memories of distributing and receiving Valentines from classmates. I especially was a fan of all the crafts we got to do! Here is a great decorative idea from the Martha Stewart website to share with the kiddies before the 14th is upon us. So easy! So cute! Also a great way to use up all those broken bits of crayon you may have lying around ;) For the next two weeks I'll be popping in with new finds, ideas and info about this lovey dovey holiday! "For Auld Lang Syne"

A quick and simple New Years layout to share! I fell in love with the rich golds and deep yellows in this My Mind's Eye line. I thought it was perfect for a photo of my sisters and I on New Years eve a couple of years ago. This is a pretty simple layout; what makes it so rich is the textures.

Scrappin Tip: Ink your edges! Start lightly and layer to reach the desired darkness you're looking for. I use sponge-dobbers because I feel they give a really even look but your every day sponge will work too! I even sponged the edges of my photo.

To achieve a shiny and layered look to my letters, I sprayed them with TWO mists. First I used Maya road's Sunflower yellow and while it was still wet I used Tattered Angels Wheat fields. They ran together and created this awesome effect. It certainly gives a nicer effect than an off white, matte chipboard letter. Give it a try! New Year - New goals

A new year. A fresh start. An opportunity to do all the things you wish you had done last year, but never seemed to get around to.

True enough - here are some of the goals that I have for 2012.

Business:

reorganize the trailer, new shelving
clearout ALL old stock
start a monthly crafting group
get back on track with classes
keep up on blog posts, newsletters and facebook entries
complete gut of website
revamp consignment part of our business
organize the best 5 year anniversary event EVER!!!
plan our calendar at least 3 months out (when possible)
meet new customers

Personal:

focus on ME more
find a hobby/interest outside of the house
play with the kids more
date nights with my husband
take better care of our house/property
set a budget and stick to it
organize regular "family" night with everyone home
spend more time with my sister
spend more time with friends
PURGE, PURGE, PURGE
paint our bedroom for the first time (11 years waiting)

Well, these are a few of my goals. I am sure that I could keep going both personal and for business but hey, I wouldn't want to overwhelm myself...lol

One at a time right? Who am I kidding? I don't think I've ever done one thing at a time. Well, lets see how many I can cross of my list...

Just wondering what everyone's whipping up for the holidays?? I got my first card in the mail today and thought...oh no! I haven't even started MAKING mine yet! Better get on that...

In an attempt to save some money, create space and not be wasteful, I have committed to using only scraps from previous years' paper collections rather than scrapping with the new (and so temptingly gorgeous) lines. I think its a good exercise and, really, they're cards. While people appreciate them, eventually we know where they all end up! For that reason, I'm sticking to my scraps and I'll use the new stuff to scrapbook photos from over the holidays. Here's a peek at what I've started on... ~Designer Brenna

Christmas may be right around the corner but I'm just getting to my Hallowe'en pictures! I wanted to share a super great idea that Victoria had while scrapping at my place a couple of weeks ago. Instead of using ribbon on a Hallowe'en layout, why not use gauze from your first aide kit!? Genius! Creative Ticket Tutorial!

A new month and a new holiday is already creeping up on us. Christmas is a fave of mine to be sure and I know we scrappers are a big fan of the Christmas lines! Who doesn't love all those sparkles, animals, bright lights and soft snow? My Mind's Eye 'Holly Jolly' line was one of my favourite releases and I still have tonnes of it!

I'm sharing a quick and creative way to spruce up a ticket or gift card. I just recently bought my mom a ticket to the 'Victorian Christmas Home Tour' in Vankleek Hill where we get shuttled around from house to house which have been professionally decorated for the holidays. Lots of shopping and taste testing to be done along the way! Awesome Right? The ticket, though? Not so exciting. It was the Pay Pal receipt. For that reason, I got to creating this adorable little house to give to her instead.

~Hand draw your separate pieces.(House, roof, chimney, door)

~Cover all pieces with patterned paper. (even the backs) I chose to sponge and sand the edges.

~Build your house using glue or dimensionals.

~Add your words behind the door and use a brad that will spin to reveal its contents.

~Find a great lace or ribbon to act as snow or lights along your roof top.

~Add snow in whatever material you have lying around.

Voila! A quick and thoughtful way to deliver your gift! I put the details of the trip on the back so she wont forget. I'd love to hear of other great ways to spruce up a ticket or gift card.

Hey everybody! Now that thanksgiving is over and we've all enjoyed our turkey left overs it's time to get into Hallowe'en mode. I just had to share these amazing pumpkins I came across on the web. It had to have been a scrapper to get that creative! Let's hear about your original decor ideas for Hallowe'en!

Designer Tutorial

With all the oh-so beautiful patterned paper out there, it can be so simple to buy an entire line of paper, make a layered page and end up with scraps that you hold onto forever! Today I'm showing you a quick example of a page that only uses 1 piece of paper and one small scrap piece. The rest of the page comes to life with embellishments (both hand made and bought) as well as inks, ribbon and a little creativity. I LOVE the result!! White space can have great impact and make your layout pop. To avoid it looking incomplete or a little 'ho-hum' I've used two shades of tattered angels mists to create some visual appeal.

The key to using lots of embellishments in a cluster is to counter your one large grouping with a smaller one at a proper angle. The page would look wrong if it were a-simetrical (with two clusters directly opposite each other.) I used dark ink on the edges of my paper to ground them and really colour coordinated the embellishments in my clusters to ensure the page flows nicely.

*I hope this has brought you some inspiration and encouraged you to use up your lovely embellishments without the need to buy 12 coordinating papers ;) Until next time, Designer Brenna

The Smash program really makes it easy and fun, and provides creative inspiration in the printed pages, and fun easy embellishments. Designer Brenna here with a quick look at a layout I created using product I picked up at Scraptease yesterday. How adorable is this Babysaurus line from My Little Yellow Bicycle?? It comes with so many cute embellishments that I didn't know what to use! It also comes in a girl line that is equally as scrumptious. For this page, I took the time to cut some images out of the paper and use them as 3D elements on the page. I also pulled inspiration from the fuzzy towel in the photo and decided to use a warm and frilly ribbon from My Mind's Eye as well as a soft off white weaved piece to bring textural interest to the layout! Breakfast Bridal Shower

My mom and I hosted a bridal shower for my aunt recently and I was in charge of theme and decor. I chose Bed, Bath & Beyond, pampering the Bride. The Bride and Groom have 6 kids between them and all they really need is time alone together.

We chose a breakfast shower on a Sunday morning (10-12). The timing worked perfectly. The food was prepared my my mother, one of my aunts and one of my uncles. The food was so delicious and beautiful I might add. I got my inspiration for the food online and the cooks took it from there making each dish their own.

I wanted everything on white dishes, white tablecloths, white decorations with a hint of the wedding colours which were pink and blue. I didn't do as much paper decor as I had planned due to bad time management on my part, but I think it all worked out fine. Here as some pictures to enjoy.

These were made with 5" styrofoam balls, a wooden dowel, flowers, straight pins and some ribbon.
Oh and of course, mason jars and sand. Simple and beautiful.

Tissue paper pom poms. Gotta love them!

These were paper lanterns that I had at the store for my window displays along with some satin ribbon. It gave an elegant touch to the yard and was beautiful with the wind blowing through.

I used one of my mixed media pieces here. How fitting!

Never underestimate tissue paper! It was a great filler for the vases.

Out with the Old, In with the New!

Hello everyone, happy long weekend to you all! This is Designer Brenna sharing a layout that I created with Scraps ONLY! I am excited to see what new CHA products and new releases will be coming to Scraptease shortly and really wanted to clear out a lot of my old product. I have piles of beautiful scraps hanging around and packages of letters with only about 5 or 6 letters that certainly don't work together to spell anything comprehensive! Throw in a couple of random brads, some ribbon ends and you may end up with a fabulous and frugal page!

Quick tip: I used the packaging from my Tim Holtz Grungeboard to create stencils for my arrows. You could use mist or sponging, paint...anything you want but I went with a simple marker to accentuate this page's theme: Up!

I know that alot of us have closet scrapbookers and stampers that live in our house. Alot of men actually love to help us but would never admit it to their friends. All of the men that have participated in our Men's classes over the past 2 year have really enjoyed themselves.

Staff gift exchange

Here are pictures of the items that were made as part of our gift exchange at our staff Christmas Party. The challenge was simple, bring something homemade and it could not cost you more than $5.00 in new supplies.

Joan made this adorable set. The item to the left is for a gift exchange. Simply write everyones names in the presents and take turns picking your name for next year!

Nancy made this beautiful decoration, that I was lucky enough to keep.

Nicole paints and she made this gorgeous piece of art. Her work has been featured at our local Art Gallery, Brushstrokes.

Patti made this cute container filled with homemade peanut brittle. (mmm - my favorite!)

This is what I made. A cute and simple candle using old sheet music and a few items from our singles section at the store.

Have you ever looked at your box of photos and wondered just what to do with it all? Well, scrapbook it is the answer!

Wondering exactly what "Scrapbooking" is?

Well basically, a scrapbook is just a glorified photo album. The difference is that it preserves more than just the photos. A scrapbook includes journaling (telling the story behind the photos) as well as memorabilia (tickets, certificates, letters, you get the idea).

With all the products, papers, adhesives, cutting tools, albums and embellishments on the market, it's natural to feel overwhelmed by it all and give up before even getting started.

In this class, Julia will teach you how to choose and use the tools you need to get started, understand common scrapbooking terms, familiarize you with standard scrapbooking techniques and teach you how to use them while you assemble your first layout.

Bring several 4x6 photos to choose from - both vertical and horizontal - 2 or 3 of the same event or theme.

Basic tool kit is not required for this beginner class - we will provide everything you need except for adhesive. Please bring some with you or you may purchase some before the class begins.
